Invercargill Workingmen’s Club is located three blocks away from the central area of Invercargill. The club has its origins in a soccer club which was founded before the second World War and when the area was a dry area, and was called the Corinthian Soccer Club. About the Invercargill Workingmen’s Club
The association with soccer ended in the year 1947 and the club was renamed Corinthian Sports Club. The club had a locker system and it was raided in 1962 with liquor confiscated. The club did not have a charter till then. The club obtained a charter in March 1964 and also acquired land for its building.
A Clarke & King warehouse at 154, Esk Street was available for sale, and it was purchased by the club. The warehouse was transformed into a club using voluntary labor, and opened in 1973 by the then major Mr. Russell Miller. The land and earlier club location were sold.
The club was expanded by acquiring premises in the vicinity. The club premises were finally completed in 1998, with the opening of the Corinthian Convention center. The club has a membership of approximately 4000, making it one of the largest clubs in Invercargill. It is also a member of clubs New Zealand, and members can enjoy the facilities of affiliated clubs.
Entertainment at the Club
The club opens at 11 am on all days of the week except Saturday when it opens at 10 am. A self service TAB terminal with dedicated televisions for teletext and racing has been installed for those who enjoying betting on racing and sports matches. It also have one of the largest big screens in the Invercargill area for major sporting events.
Members can enjoy live entertainment on Saturday. A courtesy van is available from Thursday to Saturday from 4 pm onward, which customers can use for reaching the club. It has a total of 24 gaming machines which members, guests and members of affiliated clubs can use. There are five pool tables and five snooker tables for members who play the game.

Menu & Eats at the Club
There is a separate area for children of members. The restaurant at the club is called Country Manor and is open to the public and members of the club. Lunch is served between 12 noon and 1.30 pm. A one course meal will cost $11, while a two course meal will cost $16. These are simple yet tasty meals or check out the blackboard for some other eats.
Dinner is served from Thursday to Sunday, usually 6 pm onwards. On Sunday there is a roast lunch available, yum 🙂

The convention center has three air conditioned rooms on the first floor and can host more than 1000 people for various functions. Each of the rooms has lift access, it own bar and sound system. Catering can be arranged for any function at great prices.

Memberships at the Club
The club is accepting members in different categories. Youth members between the age of 10 to 17 have to pay an annual fee of $16 and have to be accompanied by a member.
The annual fee for standard members is $60 and includes $10 credit in their account, which they can use for making purchases at the bar. Citizens above the age of 65 can become superannuated members, paying an annual fee of $40, with $10 credited to their account for club purchases.
